Star of the summer in Monaco

A Cartier Cheich watch, produced in four copies on the theme of the Paris Dakar, will go on sale online in mid-September

"It's a mythical watch," says Benoit Colson, international watch specialist at Sotheby's, who can't think of enough superlatives to describe the nugget he's found: a Cartier Cheich watch. An iconic, unprecedented piece, as rare as a mirage, whose gold dial features the silhouette of a Tuareg wearing a cheich, surrounding a dial with Roman numerals. Four models were produced in the early 1980s of this watch, which evokes the logo of the Paris Dakar. Logical: it was promised as a trophy of the "Cartier Challenge" to a competitor who would win the Paris Dakar at least twice in a row between 1983 and 1986 in the same category.

A huge challenge that Belgian Gaston Rahier accomplished by winning the 1984 and 1985 Dakar on his motorbike.
This unique jewel that he received as a trophy, he religiously kept until his death in 2005. His heirs have now entrusted it to Sotheby's, "and the watch is in exceptional condition" promises Benoit Colson, who has made it one of the key pieces of the Sotheby's exhibition in Monaco for the summer.
